Water Resistance Mechanism
Water molecules, whether from rain, moisture or other sources, have a natural tendency to cluster together due to surface tension. This cohesive force makes water droplets significantly larger than the microscopic pores in the E-PTFE membrane. As a result, water cannot penetrate the membrane's surface; instead, it beads up and rolls off, unable to squeeze through the tiny openings. The membrane's surface also exhibits hydrophobic properties, repelling water and further preventing absorption or penetration.

Individual vapor molecules are much smaller and can easily pass through the porous structure, allowing breathability.

In contrast, water vapor molecules are much smaller and lack the same cohesive force. These individual vapor molecules can easily pass through the porous structure, allowing for breathability while maintaining the waterproof barrier.
